I don’t think you guys realise what Lady Atheist was trying to say. Her argument was saying that what happened to Laci Green happens to PoC almost everyday. While she gets support, PoC get told to get over it.

Just some clarification.

It’s so easy to make someone’s argument look ridiculous if you phrase it in such a way. LadyAtheist all the way.

I’m a “jackass” for pointing out that PoC have been receiving the same treatment that Laci Green got?

Obviously no one who blogs about social issues and equality wants someone to be threatened, stalked, or harassed. I don’t even want the horrible misogynists I feature on this site to be violently threatened. But what LadyAtheist is pointing out - which is 100% true, btw - is that there are plenty of POC and WOC bloggers who experience what Laci Green has experienced (and WORSE and more often!) and they never got a damn Jezebel article written about their plight. 

Yes, this is something that shouldn’t happen. But people only seem to care that it happens when it happens to a prominent white woman. 

Not only that, but the dialogue that was being attempted previously- between sj bloggers and laci- has been completely derailed- and said sj bloggers are getting all the blame for the horrible things that happened to laci and are being dismissed because of it. And that’s a genuine issue as well.

Images like this irritate me. I don’t like the self-congratulatory aspect of geek culture which appears to have become an epidemic spread via images on websites like Facebook. But what good is complaining when I can, instead, unpack the image and try to start a dialogue on why geek culture needs to take a good, long, hard look in the mirror before patting itself on the back for the creation of such great female role models?

She was deported along with her family to Auschwitz concentration camp, where she lost both her husband and only son as well as her extended family and parents. She was given the task of working as a doctor within the camp, helping the inmates through their disease and discomfort, which she had to do without the bare necessities: antiseptic, clean wipes, even running water. She is most famous, however, for saving the lives of hundreds of mothers by aborting their pregnancies, as pregnant mothers were often beaten and killed or used by Dr. Josef Mengele for vivisections.^[1]

After leaving Bergen-Belsen, her final destination, she found out both her husband and son had died. She tried to poison herself and was sent to recuperate in a convent in France until 1947. Upon her arrival in New York City (March 1947), she was interrogated upon suspicion of being of assistance to the Nazi doctors of Auschwitz in carrying out human rights abuses. She was finally granted citizenship in 1951. She began work as a gynecologist in New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital and delivered around 3,000 babies in New York alone, becoming an expert in infertility treatment.

In June 1948, she published the story of her life in Auschwitz, detailing the horrors she encountered there (being an inmate doctor). She was later reunited with her daughter, Gabriella Krauss Blattman, whom she managed to hide during the war, and they both moved to live in Herzliya, Israel. She died in Israel in 1988.

So the next time a pro-lifer starts in on the “abortion Holocaust,” you let them know that abortion SAVED LIVES during the *actual* Holocaust. So they should STFU.
